- Wilsdorf Hall will house researchers
in materials science, chemical engineering and nanotechnology.
- It
will be 99,000 gross square feet and 5 stories high.
- It will
contain direct links into the materials science and chemical engineering buildings.
- A
$15 million dollar lead gift for the building by Gregory H. Olsen, president and
CEO of Sensors Unlimited, Inc., was the
largest ever received by the Engineering School.
- Other funding
was received from State bond issues, the family of Dave Matthews, and other private
donors .
- The building is named in honor of the late Heinz Wilsdorf,
first chair of the Department of Materials Science, and his wife, Doris Kuhlmann-Wilsdorf,
University Professor of Applied Science.
- Construction is
expected to be finished in summer 2006, with occupancy beginning during fall semester 2006.
- It
will include research laboratories, faculty offices, conference rooms, computational
facilities, and work-study areas.
