Stafford E. Thornton
(CE '59, '62) was awarded the Honorary Doctor of Sciences by the
faculty at the West Virginia University Institute of Technology.
He retired from the WVU Tech faculty in July 2000 after 36 years
of service.
1960s
James E. Drewry
(Aero '60, '62) is the 2001 recipient of the Distinguished Alumni
Award from Tau Beta Phi. He is executive vice president and COO
for Oak Ridge Associated Universities in Tennessee.
T. Howard Noel
(CE '61) received the Guy Kelcey Award in the planning and design
division of the American Road and Transportation Builders Association.
Henry C. Englund
(EE '65) is chief executive officer and chairman of the board of
trustees development committee at the Evergreens, a continuing-care
retirement community in Moorestown, N.J.
Geoffrey N. Irvine
(MAE '68) is vice president of AMC Delancey Group Inc. in Philadelphia,
overseeing national property operations, leasing and development.

Charles D. Ross
(Nuc. '80, Engr. Physics '83, MSE '88) is associate professor of
physics at Longwood College. He recently authored "Trial by
Fire: Science, Technology, and the Civil War" and "Civil
War Acoustic Shadows." His work has been featured in Discover,
Science and U.S. News and World Report and on NPR.

Michael R. Matthews
(CE '89) is chairman of the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport Authority.
He is the principal of Matthews Development Co., a Charlottesville-based
real estate development and consulting firm.
Astronaut
Patrick G. Forrester (MAE '89) was a mission specialist aboard
the STS-105 Discovery that rendezvoused with the space station from
August 1022. It was NASA's 11th mission to this outpost. "I
thought the experience at U.Va. was wonderful," Forrester said
recently. "The faculty is superb and the education is world-class."
Forrester visited students in James McDaniel's class in November.

Rakesh Radhakrishnan
(ChE '95) received a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Virginia
Tech and is a postdoctoral research associate at Washington State
University in Pullman, Wash.
Eric Anderson (Aero
'97) is co-founder, president and chief executive officer of Space
Adventures, an Arlington, Va., travel agency that sells the final
frontier as a vacation destination. The company was involved in the
recent space flight taken by California millionaire Dennis Tito. He
was featured in a December Washington Post magazine story on space
travel.
Bertina M. Lee
(CS '99) was featured in a recent Richmond Times-Dispatch article
about the World Kick Boxing Association's World Games. She qualified
by placing second in her weight class at the State Games at Fort
Lee, Va. She is employed with Dominion Resources Inc.
Nathan Neckel
(Engr. Sci. '99) completed his MS in bioengineering at Syracuse
University and is now a staff neuroscientist at Johns Hopkins School
of Medicine.
Alessa Parde
(SE '99) and David Rizzi (SE '99) were married in the University
Chapel in May 2001. The couple was featured in a May Washington
Post article exploring the digital approach they took to wedding
planning.

Lorin
E. Cassidy, (ME '00) is a member of the Ford Motor Co.'s Leadership
Development Program. Lorin is on a nine-month assignment at Ford's
Land Rover Division in England that involves engineering, manufacturing
and sales. Lorin is one of three former co-op students currently
in the Leadership Development Program at Ford.
