A publication about faculty and student research at the Engineering School

StudentThe U.Va. Engineering School offers undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to study and do research in a supportive, creative and challenging environment. Our programs ready you to take your place in the professional world in diverse areas of engineering or to pursue further study leading to professions in medicine, law and business.

The School includes 146 academic faculty, 21 general instructional faculty, 14 research faculty, 85 research professionals and 110 staff who serve 2,263 undergraduate and 647 graduate students enrolled in 10 undergraduate and 10 graduate programs, including three off-Grounds programs. The Engineering School is home to nine departments and operates over 40 centers, labs and consortia, many of which are multidisciplinary, bringing in expertise from the University’s College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, and schools of medicine, business and law.

We have a diverse student body. Twenty-eight percent of our undergraduate students are women and 26 percent are from underrepresented populations. Twenty-six of our graduate students are women and 11 percent are from underrepresented populations.

The School of Engineering and Applied Science administration and faculty are pleased that Governor McDonnell’s Executive Directive One declares that there is no tolerance for discrimination, including on the basis of sexual orientation. SEAS is committed to being a welcoming place for every member of our community and to avoid discrimination of all types in the treatment of students, faculty and staff. In particular, we strongly endorse and will continue to comply with the University’s policy prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.
