| Michael J. Demetsky | | Professor, Civil and Environmental Engineering | | Chair, | | Ph.D., Carnegie Mellon University | | | | Dr. Demetsky has served on the University of Virginia faculty since 1970 and has authored more than 125 publications and reports. He is the director of the Center for Transportation Studies in the Department of Civil Engineering and oversees U.Va.'s participation in the multi-university ITS Implementation Research Center in Virginia, and U.Va.'s program in the Department of Transportation Regional University Transportation Center. He is the secretary of the Council of University Transportation Centers (CUTC) and past president of ITS Virginia (ITSVA). He has chaired the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Committee on Artificial Intelligence and the Executive Committee of the ASCE's Urban Transportation Division. He is currently a member of the ASCE Intermodal Transportation and Publications Committees of the Urban Transportation Division; TRB's Committees on Artificial Intelligence and Freight Transportation Planning and Logistics; and the Executive Committees of CUTC and ITSVA. He is a member of ITS America, the Transportation Research Forum (TRF), the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), and the American Road and Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) Education Committee. Professor Demetsky received the ASCE Journal of Transportation Engineering’s Best Paper Award for 1999, and the ASCE 1995 Frank M. Masters Transportation Engineering Award.
