Lloyd E. Barrett
Professor, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering
Ph.D., University of Virginia

Lloyd Barrett joined the faculty in 1978 and is currently a professor of mechanical engineering. He received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of Virginia.

Research Interests
Dr. Barrett’s research interests are in the areas of mechanical vibration, rotor dynamics, and lubrication. The research is concerned with predicting machinery vibration problems and correcting them through proper bearing design. His research has produced several computer analysis and design programs in those areas that have been distributed to industry through the Rotating Machinery and Controls (ROMAC) Industrial Research Program in the department. Dr. Barrett is an active member of ROMAC and is conducting research in modeling of rotor-bearing support systems and analysis and testing of tilting pad bearings. He is also faculty advisor to the school Motorsports Engineering Program.
