She obtained her undergraduate degree from University of Glasgow, Glasgow, Scotland and her PhD degree from Harvard University. Dr. Bart-Smith came to UVA from Princeton University where she worked on ultralight materials (metallic foams) with J.W. Hutchinson and A.G.
