George L. Cahen, Jr.
Professor, Materials Science and Engineering
Associate Vice President, Virginia Engineering Foundation
Ph.D., University of Virginia

Dr. Cahen has been on the faculty since 1981. He teaches materials science and core engineering courses to undergraduates. He has served as the director of academic outreach from 1984-99, as the assistant dean for graduate programs from 1991-96, and as assistant dean for outreach programs from 1996-99. Presently he is an associate vice president for the Virginia Engineering Foundation, working to raise private monies for new building construction. He has authored numerous publications in materials science and applied electrochemistry, and holds five U.S. patents.

Research Interests
George Cahen's research interests focus on the materials aspects of electrocatalysis, energy conversion, electrochemistry of graphite fiber-polymer matrix composites, and corrosion. He studies corrosion and the structure-property relationships in materials science and the importance of these relationships to the performance of materials used in electrochemical processes.
