Frederick H. Epstein
Joint Appointment, Biomedical Engineering
Associate Professor, Radiology, School of Medicine
Ph.D., University of Virginia

Dr. Epstein has served on the University of Virginia faculty since 2000. He has published about 20 research articles on magnetic resonance imaging techniques, particularly focusing on imaging the heart. His professional affiliations include the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance, The American Heart Association, Phi Beta Kappa, and Tau Beta Pi. He has held research and development positions at GE Medical Systems and the National Institutes of Health prior to joining the faculty at Virginia.

Research Interests
Dr. Epstein's research interests include developing new imaging techniques for non-invasively measuring myocardial function and perfusion.  For the last six years Dr. Epstein has worked extensively on developing, validating and applying echo-planar MRI techniques for these applications.  Dr. Epstein's additional interests include developing MRI methods for assessing heart function in transgenic and knockout mouse models of coronary heart disease.
