| Donald E. Brown | | Professor, Systems and Information Engineering | | Chair, Department of Systems and Information Engineering | | Ph.D., University of Michigan | | | | Dr. Brown has served on the University of Virginia faculty since 1985. Dr. Brown is a Fellow of the IEEE and a past president of the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society. He is a recipient of the Outstanding Contribution Award from that society and the IEEE Millennium Medal. He is editor-in-chief of the IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics, Part A: Systems and Humans; and an associate editor for the International Journal of Technology Management. He has worked as a consultant for numerous private and governmental organizations and as the principal investigator for over 75 research contracts with federal, state and private organizations. He is a member of the U.S. Department of Defense Joint Directors of Laboratories' group on data fusion. He served on the National Research Council panels on high-performance computing and crisis management, and surface infrastructure protection. He also served on the administrative committee of the IEEE Neural Networks Council. He chaired the Operations Research Society of America's technical section on artificial intelligence and received the Outstanding Service Award from that Society. | | | | Research Interests | | Donald Brown's research focuses on data fusion, data mining, pattern recognition and spatial-temporal analysis. Applications for his research include crime analysis and security, military data fusion, cyber crime, transportation safety, health care and medical decision-making, and environmental systems.
