Barry W. Johnson
Professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering
Ph.D., University of Virginia

Dr. Johnson has served on the faculty since 1984. He has published more than 150 journal and conference articles, two textbooks, eight book chapters and numerous technical reports. His research and publications have focused on the design and analysis of safety-critical and fault-tolerant computer systems. He was named a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in 1996 for his contributions to fault-tolerant computing. Dr. Johnson worked in industry for Harris Corp. prior to joining the university, and he has served as an adviser for numerous industry, government and professional organizations.

Research Interests
Dr. Johnson specializes in the design, modeling, simulation and analysis of safety-critical and fault-tolerant computer systems. He has developed new techniques that allow the assurance of safety in integrated hardware/software systems and that support quantitative assessment of system safety. His research results have been applied extensively to aviation, nuclear and railroad applications throughout the world.
