Quarles Professor of Engineering and Applied Science | | Ph.D., Carnegie Mellon University | | | | Dr. Jones has been a member of the University of Virginia faculty since 1988, serving as department chair from 1989 to 1993. From 1994-97 she was on leave from the University to serve in the U.S. Department of Defense as Director of Defense Research and Engineering. In that position she oversaw the department's science and technology program, research laboratories and Advanced Research Projects Agency. She has received the U.S. Air Force Meritorious Civilian Service Award, Distinguished Public Service Award, and the Virginia Engineering Foundation Service Award. She has authored over 40 technical papers and she is a Fellow of the IEEE, ACM, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, as well as a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the National Science Board. | | | | Research Interests | | Anita Jones’ research interests include software systems, parallel and high-performance computation, security, simulation, and national science and technology policy. | | |
