Why engineering?
Engineering was something I knew I wanted to pursue from the beginning. I love building things, so engineering was the next logical step.
Why engineering at U.Va.?
Studying at U.Va. provides so many opportunities to take high level engineering courses along with other subjects. Our Engineering School makes sure its students are well balanced and this is something I learned to love. Right now, I'm taking a 300-level math class, learning economics and working on my French.
What research and other activities have you done that are related to engineering?
A friend and I founded a society for people who like to build things. It's called Eta Lambda Chi (http://etalambdachi.org/) and we meet up frequently to work on our projects. So far, we've seen three projects launch and they've all been very successful. You can read more about them by visiting. Also, I worked with the Systems Department to put up a social networking site (http://rodyssey.com) to help students find new job opportunities. You can read more about that by visiting.
What is your favorite thing about the E-School?
The people are amazing and never cease to impress me.
What has been your favorite class and why?
A “Science of Information” (ECE 200) class with Professor Michael Reed. It's a challenge I have never experienced before, and although I was working on his problem sets for eight hours at a time, I learned a LOT and the course material was really fun. I strongly recommend it to anybody who wants a better understanding of everything.
Who has been your favorite professor and why?
My “Engineering, Technology, and Society” (STS 101) Professor – Professor Douglas Jerolimov. I had him during my first semester and he showed us how so many questions really have no answer. At the same time, he pushed us to make sure that we became the best writers and communicators that we could. I really recommend his class.
What other activities do you participate in at U.Va.?
I'm involved with the Arab Student Organization (ASO), Securities & Derivatives Club (SDC) and the International Relations Organization (IRO). I plan on joining Cavalier Road Runners soon to pick up running again.
What do you do for fun?
I started DJ’ing during my first semester. DJ'ing is a great change from things and it keeps my mind balanced. I also like long walks on the beach.
How do you think the E-School will help you after graduation?
The things I learned already come in handy. The people I meet and connections I’ve made will probably be invaluable. The experiences should be really helpful.
What do you plan to do after graduation?
Maybe get an MBA or try entrepreneurship. I like to figure things out as they happen. |
