Technology in World History book cover
Engineering School faculty are not only going into the classrooms to share knowledge, they are — quite literally — writing the books!
Technology in World History — a seven volume book set edited by W. Bernard Carlson, a professor in the Department of Science, Technology and Society at U.Va.´s Engineering School — explores the role technology has played in 18 separate cultures in world history and reveals the many ways people use technology to control their environment; express religious values; deploy political power; confer social status; and afford themselves varying degrees of pleasure, comfort and security.
The books, developed for middle and high school students and designed to fit both science and world history curricula, illuminate the amazing array of technologies that humans have developed to shape and give meaning to their lives.
Listen to Professor Carlson describe about how the kiwi fruit has impacted globalization, the paradox of the pyramids and more by visiting the Technology in World History web site at technologyinworldhistory.com.
