From July 23-July 27, 2007, the U.Va. Engineering School will host the first Robotics Systems Summer Camp designed to motivate students to pursue careers in engineering and help students see how systems engineers apply math and science to solve real world problems. The theme for 2007 is “Systems Engineering: Gaining Inspiration from Nature.”

The day camp will be open to middle school age students throughout the region. It will be a hands-on, active and team-based introduction to engineering that engages students in the design, analysis, building and testing of robots. LEGO Mindstorms robotic kits will allow participants to create working prototypes to test basic systems concepts such as network analysis. The camp will also include a session for parents to learn what classes, activities, etc. their student must complete in order to effectively pursue an engineering career.
