Engineering Open House

Each February, Engineering School faculty, students and friends host an open house for K–12 students and their families as well as the community. Each of the School´s nine departments participates in the weekend event by hosting exhibits, holding demonstrations or lectures, and volunteering to take attendees on tours of the U.Va. Engineering complex.

Engineering Open House, 2006

The 2007 Engineering Open House activities included a lecture on the “Sights and Sounds of Space Flight” given by Kathryn C. Thornton (Physics ´79), an astronaut and associate dean of the SEAS graduate program, as well as exhibits focusing on “Robots in Action,” “Renewable Fuels — Biodiesel from Soybeans” and more.

Hundreds of students from far and wide travel to the SEAS Open House each year — some by the busload.
