Technical Minors (S.E.A.S)

The Minor requirements below are only sumemrized guidelines.
For the official minor requirements, please
consult the official Undergraduate Record or the department's website.

Aerospace Engineering
  • MAE 2010
  • Choose two courses from MAE 2100, 2300, 2310, 2320, and 3210
  • Choose two courses from MAE 3010, 3220, 3310, 3420, 3610, 3730, 3820, 4120 and 4130
Applied Mathematics
  • Five courses at the 3000-level or above
  • Two courses must be chosen from APMA 3080, 3100, and 3140

Biomedical Engineering
  • BIOM 2101 and 2104
  • Four courses choosen from: BIOM 2220, 2240, 3310, 3315, 3636, 4806, 4311, 4280, 4414, 4417, 4641, 4783, 4784, 4890, 4550*, and CHE 3347
  • One may be chosen from BIOM 2102 or BIOL 3010, 3090, 4170, 4650, or 5010
Chemical Engineering
  • CHE 2215, 3316, 3318, 3321, 3322
Civil Engineering
  • Choose five Civil Engineering courses, no more than two at the 2000-level
Computer Science
  • CS 1010*, 2110, 2102, 2150
  • Two courses from 3000 or above

*if you place out of CS 1110 (101) via the placement exam, you still have to take 6 CS courses; if you receive course credit for it via the AP exam or transfer credit, then you need not substitute a course in its place.

Electrical Engineering
  • ECE 2630, 2330, and 2660
  • 3 electives (with at least one course at the 400 level or above). The electives are selected from a list of courses available in the office of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
Materials Science and Engineering
  • MSE 2090 and 3050
  • Either MSE 3060 or MSE 3070
  • Choose two courses from MSE 3610 (also crosslisted as MAE 3610), CHE 4449, MSE 3080, 3101, 4320, 4055, 4592
Mechanical Engineering
  • MAE 2000 with lab
  • Choose two courses from MAE 2100, 2300, 2310, 2320, 3210
  • Choose two courses from MAE 3120, 3140, 3620, 3710, 4710, 4730, 4740, 4760
Systems Engineering
  • APMA 3100 and 3120
  • Choose four courses from SYS 2004, 2057, 3001, 3021, and 3060

Mathematics and Natural Science Minors (C.L.A.S.)

Astronomy
  • ASTR 1210 and 1220 or ASTR 2110 and 2120
  • Nine additional credits of ASTR at the 3000-level or above
Biology
  • BIOL 2010, 2020, 2030 and 2040 (see site for exemption and credit)
  • Choose two courses from BIOL 3000, 3010, and 3020 (CHEM 1410/1441 and 1420/1421 are pre-requisites)
  • Choose two more courses above 3000-level (see site for restrictions)
Chemistry
  • CHEM 1410/1411, 1420/1421, 2410/2411, 2420/2421 -OR- CHEM 1810/1811, 1820, 2810/2811, 2820/2821
  • Choose one from CHEM 3410, 3610, or 3810
  • Choose one other CHEM above the 2000 level (except research courses)
  • No classes may double counted toward teh Chemisty Minor
Environmental Science
  • At least 16 credits of Environmental Science
  • Must include two core courses with lab work
  • Mstu include one advanced non-core course above 2000 level
  • No more than six credits of non-core courses below the 3000-level may be used towards the minor
Mathematics
  • In order to declare a minor in Mathematics, complete the calculus sequence through MATH 2310 with at least a 2.000 average
  • Must complete 5 courses (3 must be 3000 or above)
  • One of the five courses should be MATH 3310 or 3354
  • Courses with the STAT mnemonic or from other departments or institutions can be taken if approved by the undergraduate committee
Physics
  • PHYS 151, 152, 251, 252 and either 221 or any 300-level physics course
  • or
  • PHYS 231, 232, 203, 204, 252 and any 300-level physics course
  • or
  • PHYS 142E and 142W, 241E and 241W, 252, and any 300-level physics course
