Engineering School rises 8 points in the U.S. News Graduate Rankings - the highest rise in graduate rankings in ten years. The School was ranked 42nd and is now 34th among graduate schools in the United States.


Changes in Development to Help School

The two organizations that worked independently to support the Engineering School have merged into a new organization - the SEAS Trustees. This organization will provide the backbone of support for the School in matters related to strategic planning, development and promotion.

Distinguished Langley Professor Joins Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
Mool G. Gupta has joined the Engineering School as Distinguished Langley Professor in Quantum/Molecular Materials Design for Sensors. Professor Gupta will be the principal U.Va. faculty member resident at NIA, with an appointment in the Charles L. Brown Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. READ THE STORY

Professor Wm. Wulf Awarded Ralph Coats Roe Medal
William A. Wulf, University Professor and professor of Computer Science and president of the National Academy of Engineering, received the Ralph Coats Roe Medal from the American Society of Mechanical Engineering. The medal, established in 1972, recognizes an outstanding contribution toward a better public understanding and appreciation of the engineer's worth to contemporary society. READ THE STORY

The Engineering School Senior Thesis - 101 Year Old Tradition Continues
Virginia's leading engineering professor for 55 years, William Mynn Thornton, assigned the "Graduating Thesis" shortly after becoming the school's first dean 101 years ago. Today, the undergraduate thesis still remains as a graduation requirement.
