PRE-COLLEGE PROGRAMS: Juntos Podemos

The application process for 2008 is open.

The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) at the University of Virginia invites and sponsors the Northern Virginia High Schools students to participate in the "Juntos Podemos (Together We Can)" program. The purpose of this program is to encourage and motivate Hispanic students to graduate high school and pursue a four-year college degree in engineering, science or math.

Juntos Podemos begins in January with an informative presentation at the high schools. The students at these schools are encouraged to apply to be a part of Juntos Podemos. Students are selected from a pool of applicants to begin a mentor relationship with the SHPE students at the University of Virginia. As a culminating event, the selected students are invited to spend a weekend learning about the various disciplines of engineering and the admission process. The participants will be housed in dormitories and have a chance to interact with some of the engineering faculty and current UVA students.

The Juntos Podemos weekend is held on the last weekend of February as a part of the Engineering Open House. The applications are given at the time of the presentation in January. No fee is required to participate in this program.
