The Center for Engineering Career Development is an independent career services office, under the direction of the Office of the Dean of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS).

Our mission, as part of the Dean's Office, is to directly serve the engineering students through professional advising and counseling. We assist them in understanding the job search and career self-management processes in order to prepare them to make career changes and decisions throughout their professional careers.

Clarence J. (C.J.) Livesay, Director

C.J. has 28 years of corporate management experience in university relations, including college recruiting, cooperative education programs in engineering environments, and corporate gifts and grants for universities. C.J. leads employer development for the office, runs the cooperative education program, and meets with students regarding their career planning questions.

Frances Hersey, Associate Director

A graduate of UVA's M.Ed. Counselor Education program, Frances's educational focus was Student Affairs Practice in Higher Education. Frances has worked in career services and higher education for over 14 years. She provides comprehensive career counseling and development services to both students and alumni. Frances implements career education programs, consults with students on career search strategies, and conducts career and personality assessments.

Barbara Graves, Programs Coordinator

Barbara has 13 years of experience working with students at U.Va (9 years at SEAS, 2+ years at the Law School). She has also held managerial positions with local businesses with an emphasis on customer service. She earned an A.A.S. degree from PVCC, and a Certificate of Completion from Mary Baldwin College. Barbara directs the Career Development Office, manages communications with students, and facilitates employer services.
