Outstanding Student Award Presentation Speech 2008

Marin Odioso

    Marin S. Odioso comes to us from the Academy of the Holy Names in Tampa, Florida. She will receive her degree in Systems Engineering with a concentration in Management while minoring in Engineering Business.

    Marin’s interests and service activities are also extensive and diverse. She has served as a first year judge for the University Judiciary Committee and has been a tour guide for the University Guide Service. She has served as a peer advisor for transfer students and as a mentor for Gaining Understanding Through Support. She volunteered in Alternative Spring Break, Chile, and has served in a number of leadership positions in her sorority, Alpha Chi Omega.

    She has worked in several different capacities over the past four years: she has served as an assistant office manager for Keyframe, Inc, an intern in the Project Planning and Implementation Division of the National Capital Planning Commission in Washington, DC, and an assistant to the director of the Science and Technology Policy Internship Program here at the School of Engineering. Most recently she has served as an intern for the Center for Advanced Aviation System Development at the MITRE Corporation.

    Marin’s success as an exceptional scholar has been recognized by the following. She is an elected member of the following honor societies: The Golden Key International Society, Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Society, Omega Rho Engineering Society, and Tau Beta Pi. She is a Harrison Research Awardee and was a Marshall Scholarship Finalist. She is also a member of the Raven Society and a current Lawn Resident. She has been admitted to graduate school at U. C. Berkeley in transportation engineering.

    We are very proud of this young woman and are pleased to present the second of this year’s SEAS Outstanding Student Awards to Ms. Marin S. Odioso.
