Hiring Criteria (Human Resources Regulated)

This type of hire is paid per his/her timesheet, which will be submitted through the Self-Service Online System. Additionally, this status of hire is limited to 1500 hours per 365 day period. This is state policy. Effective June 21, 2006, the University policy has been to revised now to define the 365-day period as the fiscal year (July 1 - June 30). Students who attend a school other than UVa may fall into this category.

Procedure

Posting and hiring for staff positions are done in conjunction with University Human Resources (Jobs@UVA). There are two steps to the process: posting the job and selecting a candidate for hire.

To post the job, the department recruiter should:

  • Call Phyllis M. Bibb at 434.924.3594
  • Have the departmental recruiter complete the form online and send it to the approver.
  • The job will be posted in the Oracle system and the department recruiter will be notified of the specifics of the post (requisition #, etc)
  • Each department has an assigned recruiter (usually the assistant to the department chair)

See your department recruiter for information on how to access names of applicants for the job post.

To hire an employee, the recruiter should:

  • Select applicants for interview, based on the applicant information provided by Jobs@UVA
  • Conduct a minimum of two interviews
  • Conduct reference checks on final candidates
  • Contact Ms. Bibb
