Program Dates: July 7 – 21, 2017

What Is BRIDGE?
BRIDGE is a two-week summer, residential program to introduce first-year students to Grounds and ensure a smooth transition from high school to college. During the course of the program, participants will live in university housing, prepare for the rigors of academic life on Grounds through an Essential Math for Engineers course, participate in evidenced-based professional development trainings, receive information about campus resources and funding opportunities, take part in interactive engineering workshops, receive strategies to enhance study skills, and build a support network. Participation in this program is open to all incoming first-year students admitted to the University of Virginia School of Engineering and Applied Science. Transfer students are ineligible.

How Can BRIDGE Benefit Me?
Students who participate in BRIDGE will likely improve their GPA during their first year at UVA. Since the engineering curriculum tends to be quite challenging, the preparation provided in BRIDGE will expose students to the rigors of college coursework. For over twenty years, the UVA BRIDGE program has helped students jumpstart their academic careers.

  What Are the Program Costs?
Financial support from the School of Engineering and Applied Science, the National Science Foundation, and corporate sponsors will cover the cost for participation for students selected into the program. This includes coverage for tuition, housing, dining, books, and activities. Participants will be responsible for travel to UVA/Charlottesville.

What About Housing?
Students will reside in an Alderman Roan Dormitory for first-year students for the duration of the program. There are two female and two male counselors that will reside in the dorm with the students and serve as resident advisors.

Are There Other Activities Planned Outside of Academics?
In addition to a rigorous academic schedule, students will partake in social, cultural, and recreational activities to provide a holistic summer experience, as well as gain a sense of community within the City of Charlottesville.
