We have a strong, dynamic research program in the midst of one of the best comprehensive universities in the world—one that has made it a priority to encourage interdisciplinary research that addresses intellectually challenging, socially pressing issues. In virtually every instance, the contributions that engineers are uniquely trained to make — by synthesizing knowledge in ways that lead to solutions — are absolutely critical.
By sharpening our focus on those things we do exceptionally well, the Engineering School will enhance its ability to play a leading role in these collaborative efforts, joining forces with other schools at the University — and with institutions around the world — to push the frontiers of knowledge forward and to make the world a better place.
