Welcome to the U.Va. School of Engineering and Applied Science Thornton Hall Art Gallery.
Long regarded for their analytical, left-brain strengths, today’s Engineers are also flexing significant creative, right-brain skills. A new art gallery on the second floor of Thornton Hall, home to the U.Va. Engineering School, is an outlet for engineering students to share their creative side.
The Thornton Hall Art Gallery is located on the second floor of Thornton Hall. It was established in 2009 to celebrate the depth and breadth of interests among Engineering students and the University community.
The first show in the gallery featured four paintings by local artist and U.Va. graduate student Katelyn Sack. Visit the Quick Links section on this page to view pieces from subsequent shows.
The art shows are organized by the Thornton Hall Gallery Committee. Professors Ben Cohen and George Cahen and Josie Pipkin serve as curators.
Students as well as members of the University and Charlottesville communities who are interested in entry in future shows may submit electronic files of paintings and photography to Professor Cohen at bcohen@virginia.edu, along with a description of the work and any questions. Priority will be given to students in the School of Engineering and Applied Science. Art accepted for display must be framed.
